The seven-seater Foxtron Model D, measuring 5.1 metres in length and designed with high connectivity and aerodynamics, boasts an estimated driving range of more than 650 kilometres.
On October 8, during the fifth annual Hon Hai Tech Day, the Taiwanese technology giant Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) unveiled two innovative electric vehicles, broadening its range in the automotive industry. The Foxtron Model D, a versatile lifestyle multipurpose utility vehicle (LMUV), was created in partnership with the Italian design firm Pininfarina. The other release, the Model U, is a mid-sized electric bus designed for urban transportation.
The Foxtron Model D, notable for its advanced connectivity and aerodynamic features, measures 5.13 metres in length and 1.99 metres in width. According to Foxconn, it can cover over 410 miles (656 kilometres) on a single charge under the WLTP test cycle, powered by a 100-120kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery.
This model’s platform was developed by ZF Chassis Modules, a company in which Foxconn recently acquired a 50% stake.
Silvio Angori, CEO of Pininfarina, expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting the blend of artistic and technological innovation that has characterized Pininfarina for nearly 95 years. The partnership with Foxconn aligns with Pininfarina’s commitment to excellence and innovation, enhancing Foxconn’s expanding electric vehicle lineup.
The Model D incorporates features that cater to both SUV and MPV users, making it a multifunctional hybrid. It features an 800V powertrain and employs the latest platform technology from Foxconn. The vehicle is tailored to optimize compatibility with other Foxconn products, including integrated charging pads in the six-seat version of the armchair and iPad slots in the front seatbacks.
The car’s active suspension can be adjusted by 15 mm to 25 mm, and its design includes S-ducts and air curtains that minimize wind resistance, achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.23.
Foxconn’s ongoing partnership with Pininfarina began in 2021 with the electric Model E luxury sedan and continued with the stylish Model B urban crossover in 2022. All these vehicles are crafted in Pininfarina’s atelier in Cambiano, Italy, known for producing bespoke models and prototypes for some of the world’s top automotive brands.
Felix Kilbertus, Chief Creative Officer of Pininfarina, emphasized the meticulous design process of the Model D, focusing on maximizing interior space while maintaining a sleek, aerodynamic exterior. This design approach enhances visibility and lends the vehicle a modern, athletic look, appealing to contemporary drivers. The Model D represents a significant evolution from traditional SUVs, featuring a spacious, aerodynamically shaped cabin, marking another milestone in the productive collaboration between Foxconn and Pininfarina.
