Riding India’s accelerating chip-design wave, the ARKA GKT-1 intelligent-power SoC delivers efficient edge AI for smart utilities, battery systems, smart meters, and industrial automation.
India reached a semiconductor milestone on Monday with the launch of the ‘ARKA GKT-1’, described as the country’s first intelligent-power platform-on-a-chip for edge AI and smart-energy applications. The chip was introduced by Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Developed jointly by Azimuth AI and Cyient Semiconductor, the ARKA GKT-1 consolidates multi-core custom compute, intelligent power control, advanced analogue sensing and embedded memory into a single, low-energy system-on-a-chip.
The platform promises high computational efficiency while keeping power consumption minimal, enabling real-time intelligence at the network edge.
The chip is targeted at a broad range of applications. These include innovative utility systems, next-generation metering, battery and energy-storage management, industrial automation, and smart-city infrastructure.
Its architecture is built on Azimuth AI’s software-defined silicon framework, paired with Cyient Semiconductor’s expertise in mixed-signal design, power electronics and ultra-low-energy ASIC development. Together, the companies aim to position the platform as a versatile silicon base for both domestic and international markets.
Vaishnaw said the launch demonstrates India’s growing capability to design and engineer world-class semiconductor technology for advanced global industries. He noted that the achievement reflects the country’s accelerating progress towards self-reliance, advanced manufacturing and future-ready chip innovation.
Cyient Semiconductor’s Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Krishna Bodanapu, said the programme represents a complete custom ASIC solution, covering design, fabrication coordination, outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) management and final delivery.
He called it a milestone that showcases the power of collaboration between established and emerging technology companies.
Azimuth AI founder and CEO Praveen Yasarapu said the ARKA GKT-1 brings the company’s vision of intelligent, low-power silicon to life. He said the chip addresses fast-expanding markets such as energy management, smart utilities, battery systems and industrial intelligence, positioning India to compete more strongly in next-generation electronics.
