Thursday, September 12, 2013: India and Japan have already been brainstorming together on ways to work mutually to benefit the IT and electronics industries. Taking a step ahead, the two nations have now planned to set up a joint working group, which will work to facilitate investments and improve cooperation in information technology and electronics sector.
Commenting on the move, the trade and industry ministers of the two countries said in a joint statement, “Steps have been taken to form a joint working group for greater cooperation in the IT and electronics sector.” India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi met yesterday to discuss the road ahead.
It is worth mentioning here that the department of Electronics and Information Technology has established a ‘Japan Help Desk’. The help desk aims to facilitate Japanese investments in India.
The joint statement released after the meeting read, “Both sides have noted the idea to establish a Japanese Electronics Manufacturing Township with Japanese assistance in India with world class infrastructure and agreed to take this up in the forthcoming joint working group meeting.” The ministers also discussed the progress of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project. Japan is majorly instrumental in this $100 billion project, which connects the country’s political and commercial capital with a dedicated corridor on which seven new cities will be developed.
