With the official figures from the government, India’s electronics sector is booming, with a six-fold production increase and an eight-fold export rise in the last 11 years.
India’s electronics manufacturing sector has seen impressive growth over the past decade. According to the government, the sector’s output has increased six-fold, while exports have surged eight-fold in the last 11 years. In a statement to the Rajya Sabha on Friday, February 6, 2026, Jitin Prasada, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, shared official figures highlighting this growth.
He revealed that electronics production in India has risen from approximately ₹1.9 trillion in 2014-15 to an estimated ₹11.3 trillion by 2024-25. Exports have also shown a remarkable increase, jumping from ₹400 billion to around ₹3.3 trillion during the same period.
The mobile phone industry has been a major driver of this growth. Production in the mobile sector alone soared from ₹200 billion in 2014-15 to about ₹5.5 trillion in 2024-25. Exports of mobile phones have risen by more than 100 times, growing from nearly ₹10 billion to close to ₹2 trillion.
This robust growth has positioned India as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer.
A significant contributor to this progress is the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which was launched in 2020 to boost large-scale electronics manufacturing. Under this initiative, mobile phone production grew from ₹2.14 trillion in 2019-20 to ₹5.5 trillion by 2024-25, while exports expanded from ₹300 billion to ₹2 trillion.
Prasada also noted that India has now become a net exporter of mobile phones, reversing its previous status as an importer. The mobile PLI scheme has attracted over ₹150 billion in investments and generated more than 170,000 new jobs.
The government further highlighted the success of the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware, which has led to ₹165 billion in production and created nearly 4800 direct jobs. As production scales up and exports continue to rise, India is strengthening its position as a reliable global hub for electronics manufacturing.
