Boosting local appliance production, LG powers up its third plant in India, in Andhra Pradesh, with a $600M investment in Sri City, aiming to create 1500 jobs.
LG Electronics India Ltd (LGEIL) has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, marking its third production plant in India. The factory is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
The company plans to invest around US$600 million over four years. State officials confirmed that the project has been allotted almost 100 hectares (247 acres) and is expected to create nearly 1500 direct jobs.
The facility will manufacture a range of appliances, including washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, and AC compressors.
Senior representatives from LG’s South Korea headquarters were present at the launch, along with officials from the Andhra Pradesh government.
“This is not just about a new factory,” said Hong Ju Jeon, Managing Director of LGEIL. “It is about deepening our presence in India and building long-term capability closer to our customers.”
The Sri City site is located in a special economic zone (SEZ) with logistical advantages. According to the company, it will help streamline distribution across South India and reduce reliance on imports for core components.
“We are not just investing in production capacity,” said James Lee, President of LG Eco Solution Company. “This facility will allow us to bring more of our supply chain within India.”
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed the investment. “We see this as a step toward developing a stronger industrial base in the region,” he said. “It aligns with our focus on advanced manufacturing and employment.”
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, speaking from Amaravati, noted, “The project reflects the kind of long-term partnerships we are aiming to build with global manufacturers.”
The company’s other factories are located in Greater Noida and Pune.
