Expanding its EV portfolio, M&M plans a high-power highway charging network to support long-distance electric vehicle travel.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced plans to build a national high-power electric-vehicle (EV) charging network, marking a strategic expansion beyond vehicle manufacturing into India’s broader electric-mobility ecosystem. The company aims to set up 1,000 ultra-fast charging points on highways by 2027, with each charger rated at 180 kW or higher, to create seamless intercity EV travel.
Two stations, each equipped with four fast chargers, are already operational. The remaining chargers will be deployed across 250 high-traffic corridors, covering nearly 90 per cent of India’s long-distance road movement. The network is designed to be brand-agnostic, allowing all EV users to access the infrastructure, and will be integrated with Google Maps, aggregator platforms, and M&M’s own app for unified discovery and payments.
Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of M&M’s automotive division and Executive Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile, said the rollout forms a key part of the company’s long-term EV strategy. “Establishing a robust, high-power highway charging network is critical to supporting India’s transition to electric mobility and enhancing consumer confidence in long-distance EV travel,” he added.
M&M’s initiative comes as the Indian EV market accelerates, with increased adoption of electric cars, buses, and commercial vehicles. By focusing on ultra-fast, widely accessible charging infrastructure, the company aims to address one of the industry’s biggest barriers range anxiety, while positioning itself as a leader in both EV manufacturing and ecosystem development.
