Boosting the Indian Navy’s capabilities and supporting self-reliance in defence, the Ministry of Defence signed a ₹6.42 billion contract with BEL for 28 EON-51 systems.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a ₹6.42 billion contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in New Delhi to procure 28 EON-51 systems for the Indian Navy. These systems are set to be installed on 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships.
This move follows right after the ministry awarded contracts worth ₹101.47 billion for the advanced rocket systems and upgradation of the SHAKTI Software with BEL.
The indigenously developed EON-51 system enhances the Indian Navy’s efficiency by detecting and classifying targets using electro-optical and thermal imagers, supporting tracking and engagement of targets in all conditions. The total cost of installation includes taxes under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
The ministry further highlighted that this contract is set to generate massive employment over three years and promote participation from Indian micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) beyond improving national defence.
Mentioning a broader vision of self-reliance, the MoD also stated that this will “significantly contribute to the Government’s efforts to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta‘ in defence.”
Since its last update on January 28, 2025, BEL has secured orders totalling ₹3.52 billion, including defence equipment like anti-drone systems, fuses, integrated fire detection and suppression systems, vessel communication systems, and related spares and services.
With these new contracts, Bharat Electronics’ order book for the current fiscal year has reached ₹118.55 billion.
Earlier in January 2025, BEL partnered with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to establish a joint entity for providing comprehensive lifecycle support, including technical assistance and maintenance, for the MRSAM defence systems deployed in India.
