Monday, July 21, 2014: The West Bengal government is not leaving any stone unturned to lure the IT/ITes industry in the state. In the latest, Amit Mitra, the IT minister of the state, offered Nasscom ‘ready’ space of 10,000 sq ft, for setting up its first incubator in the region.
The space allotted is in the IT township of Sector V in Salt Lake. Webel (the West Bengal government’s electronics arm) will provide the space to Nasscom. Along with this, an additional space of 2,500 sq ft will also be allotted for the incubator. This additional space will be allotted after the facility starts its operations.
Commenting about the initiative, Mitra said, “Please ensure that you provide venture capitalist and angel investors also to the incubation facility.” He also requested Nasscom to mentor the upcoming IIIT Institute in Kalyani, West Bengal. The institute is likely to come into being in August this year. The idea behind setting up the incubator is to nurture and facilitate start-ups, leading to creation of entrepreneurship.
