With advanced defence tech to counter evolving aerial threats, DRDO and Adani Defence unveiled a cutting-edge counter-drone system at Aero India 2025.
On Tuesday, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) launched a new indigenous vehicle-mounted counter-drone system at Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru, developed in partnership with Adani Defence and Aerospace.
The system was introduced by Dr BK Das, Director General of the Electronics & Communication System at DRDO, during a presentation attended by key DRDO officials, defence experts, and industry stakeholders. According to Adani, the launch reflects India’s growing strength in developing indigenous defence technologies.
Developed in collaboration with DRDO, the counter-drone system marks a significant leap in strengthening India’s defences against evolving aerial threats. The system is mounted on a 4×4 vehicle, providing high mobility, precision, and long-range protection.
Furthermore, it incorporates a range of advanced sensors for detecting, classifying, and neutralising drones. The system includes a high-energy laser for drone neutralisation, a 7.62mm gun for engaging aerial threats, radar, SIGINT, electro-optical sensors, and jammers for real-time tracking and neutralisation within a 10km range.
At the inauguration, Dr Das commended Adani Defence for this public-private effort, particularly in implementing Transfer of Technology (TOT) practices.
He also highlighted the system’s role in countering asymmetric threats, with its advanced technologies integrated into a single, highly flexible and responsive platform, emphasising DRDO’s commitment to bolster national security and safeguard both defence and civilian assets from the growing threat of rogue drones.
Aero India 2025, India’s largest airshow and aviation exhibition, has officially started and will run until 14 February at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru. The event features aerial demonstrations and static displays from India and various other nations.
