Partnering to expand access to advanced 5G features, Nokia and Bharti Airtel will offer network APIs that help developers and enterprises build smarter, real time digital solutions.
Nokia announced a partnership with Bharti Airtel to open the operator’s pan India network capabilities to third party developers through Nokia’s Network as Code platform and developer portal. The collaboration aims to create new monetisation opportunities and spur innovative 5G enabled use cases across multiple industry sectors by giving developers standardised access to Airtel’s advanced network features.
Following successful trials, Airtel’s network APIs will be offered on a subscription basis to developers, system integrators and enterprises through the platform. Nokia said the move will allow developers to build sophisticated applications that leverage capabilities such as artificial intelligence, 5G connectivity and edge computing without needing to manage underlying network complexities.
Network APIs are emerging as a key technology that allows operators to virtualise parts of their networks and expose targeted functions to developers, enabling tailored digital services and creating new revenue streams. Airtel Business chief executive Sharat Sinha said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to enabling future ready innovation and expanding collaboration across the ecosystem.
Arvind Khurana, who leads cloud and network services for Nokia in India, said the agreement strengthens the Network as Code ecosystem and supports operators in monetising their network investments. The platform connects multiple API ecosystems, offers strong multi tier security and simplifies access to network functions.
Nokia said its global Network as Code ecosystem now includes more than 60 partners across telecom providers, AI and data center customers, CPaaS platforms, system integrators and independent software vendors.
