Adding another push to India’s green transition, NTPC commissions 359.58 MW of solar capacity in western India, bringing its installed and commercial capacity to over 85.5 GW.
State-owned PSU National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd has added fresh renewable capacity by commissioning solar projects totalling 359.58MW across Gujarat and Rajasthan. With this, the group’s installed and commercial power capacity has crossed 85.5 GW.
The company said the new capacity has been brought online as part of its strategy to scale clean energy generation.
A large share of the addition comes from Gujarat. NTPC Renewable Energy, a step-down subsidiary, has commissioned 243.66MW under the 1255MW Khavda-I solar project. According to NTPC, this is one of its most significant ongoing renewable developments in the country and is expected to play a key role in its expansion plans in western India.
In Rajasthan, the PSU has commissioned 78MW from the 245MW Nokh Sokar solar project.
Furthermore, the company has also operationalised 37.93MW from a 300MW project at Khavda in Gujarat, which is being developed under the 450MW Hybrid Tranche-V scheme. This initiative supports hybrid renewable infrastructure that combines multiple clean energy sources to improve reliability and grid support.
NTPC has been steadily accelerating its renewable energy portfolio as it reduces dependence on conventional power. The company has set an ambitious target of achieving 60GW of renewable capacity by 2032. The latest commissioning marks another step towards this long-term goal.
