Looking to charge India’s defence tech, Optiemus’ drone subsidiary OUS has teamed up with Taiwan’s KunWay to locally manufacture cutting-edge drones in their Noida facilities.
On Wednesday, New Delhi-based Optiemus Unmanned Systems Private Limited (OUS), a subsidiary of Optiemus Infracom Limited, announced a partnership with Taiwan’s KunWay Technology to manufacture a wide range of drones in India.
This collaboration aims to localise, produce, and sell selected drone models for the Indian market. Additionally, the two companies will explore KunWay’s broader product portfolio on a case-by-case basis. OUS will utilise its manufacturing facilities in Noida to produce KunWay’s drones.
According to Optiemus, the announcement aligns with India’s defence sector reform agenda for 2025, highlighting the nation’s growing emphasis on technological advancement.
KunWay, based in Taiwan’s Chiayi AI Drone Centre, specialises in AI-driven drone technology and provides solutions for applications across various industries, with a strong customer base in the US and Japan.
Ashok Gupta, Chairman of Optiemus Infracom, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. He stated, “We are witnessing fast-paced adoption of technology, and it is increasing at a rapid pace, especially in the domains of defence and homeland security. In line with keeping abreast with these changing times, we are looking to expand our portfolio of products in the Indian market.”
“The rate of adoption of technology across industries has never been faster, and India, given its growing competency, will be one of our focus markets. With this collaboration, we also see a greater opportunity to further focus on catering for the needs of our other overseas clients by getting certain products made and exported from India,” noted David Chung Yi Liu, President and CEO of KunWay.
India’s push to become a global drone manufacturing hub is part of a broader strategy to enhance its defence capabilities and economic growth. With an estimated market value of USD 23 billion by 2030, the drone sector is set to play a key role in India’s technological future, predicts Optiemus.
