In an attempt to handle the pesky calls and SMSs sent from the international servers, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and telecom companies have planned to counter them jointly. They will now work jointly to find a solution to the problem of telemarketers using international websites to send pesky calls and SMSs. Pesky calls and SMSs, which were banned by the telecom regulator, have resurfaced creating a trouble for the users.
To avoid getting caught, telemarketers are now reaching the mobile subscribers by using servers located outside the country to send such unwanted commercial communication.
According to a PTI report, Rajan S Mathews, director general, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said that telemarketers have started sending messages from servers located outside India, which does not fall under the purview of the TRAI.
He said, “TRAI is concerned and is looking into the matter to curb this new method adopted by telemarketing companies. We do not want the customer to suffer and we as an industry are working with TRAI to find the best possible solution. It is difficult to monitor messages sent through servers outside, but we will find a way out.”
It is worth mentioning here that the telecom regulator has penalised 15 telemarketers till date and issued notices to 900 individuals for violating the norms. Subscription of 90 people have also been disconnected.
