At a function in Chennai, upper house member Kanimozhi N.V.N. Somu unveiled a new range of electric vehicle charging machines of DJT Haika and SmileXEV. While unveiling the machines, the Rajya Sabha member added that in Chennai, transport sustainability is the urgent need of the hour as the vehicle population has augmented tremendously over the past few years.
Somu also revealed that promoting green transportation is necessary throughout the nation. Therefore, increasing the number of charging stations will act as a backbone to power electric cars and help people get rid of charging worries. North Chennai MP Kalanidhi Veerasamy has launched the mobile app for SmileXEV’s EV charging stations and inaugurated the website.
According to Veerasamy, bolstering electric vehicles is the only way of promoting sustainable transportation. SmileXEV and DJT Haika founders were lauded for their effort in unleashing Indigenous direct current charging machines of three different sizes catering to all the segments of EVs and in an interaction with a leading English news portal, Sanjay Kumar, founder and Chief Executive Officer of DJT Haika said that his company along with the assistance from SmileXEV, also launched alternate current (AC) charging stations. They are now aiming to deploy these charging stations in all corners of the state.
To grow the EV charging ecosystem in the state, Hyundai Motor India Limited, a few months back, also announced that it would set up its first EV charging stations in Chennai. It plans to install 100 charging units throughout Tamil Nadu. The capacity of the 180 kW DC fast charging station, consisting of 150 kW and 30 kW connectors, has already been set up in the city’s Spencer Plaza. Moreover, Japan’s EV charging firm Terra announced investing Rs 50 Crore in Tamil Nadu to install five charging stations.
