Following its OSAT debut, backed by Sachin Tendulkar and state government support, RRP Electronics aims for a significant leap in Navi Mumbai with a new semiconductor fab.
RRP Electronics has secured 100 acres (equivalent to almost 40.47 hectares) of land in Navi Mumbai to establish a semiconductor fabrication facility. The allotment was confirmed after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented a letter of comfort to support the relocation of an existing fab from Sherman, Texas.
According to the state government, the project is expected to align with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). Officials said it would bring investment, generate employment opportunities and contribute to strengthening the domestic electronics supply chain.
Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that Maharashtra would aid through infrastructure, policy measures and skills development initiatives. He said the land allotment placed the state in a central position within India’s efforts to expand its semiconductor industry.
The proposed fab will have a capacity to produce 125,000 wafers per month, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind in the region, the company said.
According to a report by The Economic Times, the company highlighted that the estimated cost of the project stands at ₹120.35 billion. It expects to begin the construction within six months from now. The first phase might be commissioned by the second quarter of 2026.
RRP Electronics Chairman Rajendra Chodankar said the acquisition was a significant development in the company’s plans to participate in the semiconductor ecosystem. He expressed appreciation for the state government’s support, describing the step as part of a broader effort towards building self-reliance in advanced technologies.
“This acquisition is a landmark step in our journey to make India self-reliant in semiconductors,” he mentioned.
The announcement follows the launch of Maharashtra’s first outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) plant in Navi Mumbai last year.
In September 2024, RRP Electronics had inaugurated the unit, in the presence of the then CM Eknath Shinde and deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar. With an investment of ₹120 billion in phase one and ₹240 billion in phase two, the facility was set to employ 4000 people and begin chip production by 2026.
