Viraphol will lead development and qualification of best in class digital design tools and methodologies from system to GDS.
Viraphol Chaiyakul of NXP has been elected to the board of directors of the Silicon Integration Initiative, marking an addition to the organisation’s leadership drawn from the global semiconductor design community.
Chaiyakul currently serves as senior director of engineering at NXP, where he leads the digital design enablement team. In this role, he is responsible for the development, deployment and qualification of digital design tools, flows and methodologies spanning the full journey from system level design to GDS. His work supports scalable and efficient design practices across complex semiconductor products.
Before joining NXP, Chaiyakul co-founded Belmont Computing, where he helped architect next generation frameworks for hardware DevOps and workflow automation in SoC design and verification. He played a central role in delivering the company’s first successful customer deployment. He has also served on the technical advisory boards of Defacto Technologies and Baum Design Systems.
Earlier, Chaiyakul held senior leadership roles at Qualcomm, where he was responsible for frontend CAD flows, methodologies and tools. During his tenure, he helped establish centralised CAD solutions and operations across SoCs, subsystems and IPs, contributing to initiatives that generated significant annual returns on investment.
Chaiyakul began his career in academia as a research faculty member at the University of California, Irvine, leading research in high level synthesis and system modelling. He holds a doctorate in information and computer science from UC Irvine and a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from UC San Diego.
In addition to his corporate experience, he has represented Qualcomm on Accellera committees and is a founding member of the SpecC Consortium.
