Expanding Odisha’s semiconductor footprint, SiCSem will lay the foundation for its second manufacturing unit on November 1.
SiCSem Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries Ltd, is set to lay the foundation stone for Odisha’s second semiconductor unit at Info Valley on November 1. The move marks another major stride in the state’s efforts to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem.
According to official sources, IDCO has allotted 23 acres of land to SiCSem for establishing a compound semiconductor manufacturing facility, one of two projects approved for the state under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). With an investment of ₹2,067 crore, the plant will process 60,000 SiC wafers annually and package around 96 million MOSFETs and diodes, catering to sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, and smart grids.
The project is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs and numerous indirect employment opportunities through the growth of ancillary industries. This will further consolidate Odisha’s position as an emerging semiconductor and ESDM hub.
The company has already established a dedicated R&D Centre (SICRIC) at IIT-Bhubaneswar, with an investment of ₹64 crore, to advance indigenous research in silicon carbide technology.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw are scheduled to attend the ground-breaking ceremony. SiCSem’s leadership, including Archean MD Ranjit Pendurthi, had earlier met the Chief Minister during Semicon India 2025 in Delhi to present the project roadmap.
