Infineon has an overall market share of 29 percent in the international automotive microcontroller market.
The global automotive manufacturing company Stallintis has partnered with Infineon Technologies, Germany’s largest chip manufacturer to develop the power architecture for the former’s EV ecosystem, aiming to provide clean, safe, and affordable mobility. This partnership includes significant supply and capacity agreements to support the development of next-generation power systems. This strategic alliance aligns with Stellantis’ “Dare Forward 2030” plan, which aims to secure essential semiconductor solutions for the company’s transition to electrified and software-defined vehicles.
Both companies are collaborating to establish a Joint Power Lab to develop next-generation scalable and intelligent power architectures for Stellantis’ software-defined vehicles. This initiative is part of a broader partnership with significant supply and capacity agreements for key semiconductor components. The collaboration focuses on several key areas:
- Smart Power Switches: Utilizing Infineon’s PROFET smart power switches to replace traditional fuses, reducing wiring complexity and enabling intelligent power network management.
- Silicon Carbide (SiC) Semiconductors: Implementing SiC semiconductors to standardize power modules, enhance EV performance and efficiency, and reduce costs.
- Microcontrollers: Employing Infineon’s AURIX microcontrollers to support the first generation of Stellantis’ STLA Brain zonal architecture.
Infineon Technologies is strategically expanding its global manufacturing capabilities to meet the growing demand for automotive semiconductor solutions. The company has inaugurated the world’s largest and most efficient 200-millimeter silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor fabrication facility. Moreover, in Dresden, Germany, construction began for a 300-millimeter “Smart Power Fab,” with production slated to begin in 2026. This facility will focus on analog/mixed-signal technologies and power semiconductors, supporting the automotive industry’s shift towards electrification and digitalization.
The global research firm TechInsights has added that Infineon is now one of the leaders in providing top-notch automotive microcontrollers with an overall market share of 29 percent in the international automotive microcontroller market.
