India’s Suzlon Group unveils new turbine platforms in Europe, aiming to capitalise on rising repowering demand and new wind project pipelines across the region.
India-based renewable energy company Suzlon Group has expanded its European presence with the launch of new 5 MW and 6.3 MW wind turbine platforms, aiming to capture growing opportunities in both repowering projects and new wind energy developments across the region.
The company said Europe is entering a significant phase of turbine repowering, where older wind installations are being replaced with higher-capacity and more efficient systems. This transition is expected to drive demand for advanced, site-optimised turbine solutions capable of delivering greater energy output while utilising existing infrastructure.
Suzlon highlighted its global operational scale, noting that it has installed approximately 21.5 gigawatts (GW) of wind power capacity across 17 countries. Of this total, around 15.5 GW has been deployed in India, while nearly 6 GW has been commissioned in international markets. In Europe alone, Suzlon currently operates close to 660 megawatts (MW) of installed wind capacity.
According to Executive Vice Chairman Girish Tanti, Europe presents a strong growth opportunity, supported by an estimated 100 GW pipeline of new wind projects alongside roughly 17 GW of repowering potential. The introduction of larger turbine models is intended to align with evolving project requirements and regional renewable energy targets.
The expansion comes at a time when global wind energy deployment is accelerating rapidly. Industry data shows that worldwide installations reached a record 165 GW of new capacity last year, representing a sharp year-on-year increase largely driven by strong additions in China.
With the latest turbine launch, Suzlon aims to strengthen its international footprint while contributing to Europe’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient renewable energy infrastructure.
