Tata Communications will be using Teleena’ technology to accelerate its mobility-based internet of things (IoT) solutions.

In January 2017, Tata Communications had bought a 35% stake in Teleena, becoming the single largest shareholder in the Netherlands-based company.

Teleena’s solution is a key part of the Tata Communications’ MOVE platform, which is key to its plans in the global mobility and IoT market.

The platform enables enterprises and device manufacturers to capture, move and manage information worldwide through borderless, secure and scalable connectivity.

Anthony Bartolo, Chief Product Officer, Tata Communications said that this was done to give the company greater control over the direction Teleena would move in.

With the combination of the Tata Communications’ MOVE platform and Teleena’s technology, Bartolo said they can dominate the roadmap to reflect customer desires.

PoC carried out using MOVE in aviation and logistics space

The company has already carried out a few proof of concepts (PoC) using MOVE in the aviation and logistics space, and Bartolo said that actual deployments would start happening soon.

“The growth rate in the global mobility and IoT market is phenomenal: by 2021, enterprises’ spending on mobility alone is set to surpass USD 1.7 trillion,” said Bartolo, earlier this month.

“Our vision is to create an environment where anything can be ‘born connected’.The combination of the Tata Communications MOVE’s platform and Teleena’s technology and talent, will help us fulfil this vision, and accelerate our growth in the mobility and IoT market,” he maintained.

Post acquisition Status

The acquisition gives the company full access to Teleena’s technology portfolio, including its MVNE platform, its Operational Support System/Business Support System (OSS/BSS) solution, and the expertise of Teleena’s mobility and IoT industry specialists.

Since its launch in February 2017, the Tata Communications’ MOVE platform has been adopted by businesses including children’s smartwatch makers Omate and Doki Technologies, new mobile network virtual operators (MVNO) like Singapore-based MyRepublic, and the smart logistics company W-Locate.
