Powered by DCR compliant modules from TP Solar Tirunelveli the project features installation of approximately 2.4 million modules.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited TPREL, a subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned SJVN Limited’s landmark 1 GW DCR compliant solar power project, marking its largest solar delivery to date and one of India’s biggest renewable energy developments.
The project uses approximately 2.4 million DCR compliant solar modules manufactured at Tata Power’s TP Solar Limited facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing and the Make in India initiative. In its first year of operation, the project is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units of green electricity and offset nearly 1.74 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, significantly supporting India’s decarbonisation goals.
Spread across the Bandarwala and Karnisar Bhatiyan sites in Bikaner, Rajasthan, the project supplies power to multiple states. Capacity allocation includes 500 MW to Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited, 300 MW to Jammu and Kashmir Power Limited, and 200 MW to Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited.
The facility integrates advanced DCR compliant cells, mono bifacial DCR modules and high performance inverters designed to optimise energy generation under extreme climatic conditions. The project was delivered in challenging terrain, with temperatures ranging from 3°C in winter to 50°C in peak summer.
Beyond clean energy generation, the project created strong local impact, employing over 300 local workers and enabling more than 25 local vendors. With this commissioning, TPREL’s third party utility scale renewable capacity stands at 4.9 GW, strengthening its role as a trusted partner in India’s clean energy transition.
