With infrastructure growth on the horizon, the state is committed to meeting rising energy demands through sustainable and innovative solutions backed by key policy incentives for developers.
Telangana aims to significantly expand its renewable energy capacity, targeting an additional 20,000 MW by 2030, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced. This goal follows the unveiling of the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy-2024. Bhatti outlined that the state will focus on a combination of Standalone Renewable Energy Projects and innovative solutions such as floating solar, Waste-to-Energy, and Green Hydrogen initiatives.
Currently, Telangana claim a renewable energy capacity of 11,399 MW, with 7,889 MW generated from solar power and 2,518 MW from hydro energy. The state is poised to meet the rising electricity demand, which is projected to grow exponentially with the launch of major infrastructure projects like Future City and Pharma City. Peak electricity demand is expected to increase from 15,623 MW in FY24 to 24,215 MW by FY30, and further to 31,809 MW by FY35.
Bhatti emphasized that meeting this escalating demand would require a transition to clean, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions. The state’s Clean and Green Energy Policy-2024 outlines several incentives designed to attract investment in renewable energy. These include Net SGST (state GST) reimbursements, stamp duty, Transmission & Distribution charges, and waivers on Electricity Duty.
These measures are expected to significantly reduce financial burdens on energy developers, improving the economic viability of large-scale projects. By making the renewable energy sector more attractive for investment, Telangana is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable energy solutions, aligning with economic growth and environmental objectives.
