Uber and JSW Group have partnered to develop electric vehicles tailored for India’s ride-hailing sector, aiming to accelerate EV adoption and support sustainable mobility.
Uber has partnered with JSW Group to develop and deploy electric vehicles (EVs) tailored for India’s ride-hailing market, supporting the country’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
The collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), will see Uber and JSW Green Mobility explore opportunities to create EV solutions designed specifically for Indian drivers and riders. The focus will be on vehicles that meet local expectations in terms of affordability, performance, and operational efficiency.
The partnership aims to accelerate EV adoption by combining Uber’s mobility platform and market insights with JSW’s growing presence in the automotive and clean mobility sectors. The companies will evaluate ways to scale localized EV solutions across different ride-hailing categories on the Uber platform.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, said the shift to electric mobility requires collaboration among technology platforms, vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators, and infrastructure providers. He noted that the partnership aligns with Uber’s efforts to support India’s vision for green and sustainable transportation.
Uber has been expanding its electric mobility initiatives in India through collaborations with automakers, fleet operators, and other ecosystem partners. The company sees electrification as a key part of its strategy to build a more sustainable urban transportation network.
JSW Group believes the alliance can contribute significantly to India’s evolving EV ecosystem. By leveraging Uber’s scale and mobility expertise alongside JSW’s clean mobility ambitions, the companies hope to drive wider adoption of electric vehicles across the country.
The announcement comes as Uber continues to increase its investments in India, one of its fastest-growing markets. The company recently revealed plans to establish its first data center in the country in partnership with Adani Group, further strengthening its technology and infrastructure footprint in the region.
