The order strengthens Concord’s position in a niche but strategic segment of railway electronics, as Indian Railways expands long-haul freight capabilities.
Advanced Rail Controls Private Limited, an arm of Concord Control Systems has received an order for Loco wireless control system from the Indian Railways.
The order amounts to ₹846.8 million for supply, installation and commissioning of the system.
The system is a Distributed Power Wireless Control System (DPWCS) designed for long-haul freight operations, a key requirement as Indian Railways continues to scale up its dedicated freight corridors.
The technology allows a single loco pilot to control multiple locomotives simultaneously connected to one freight train. Control includes synchronised acceleration, deceleration and braking, improving both operational efficiency and train handling over long distances.
The system has been introduced following trials and is now seeing wider deployment, given that it reduces strain on couplers, enhances traction control, and allows smoother movement of trains.
Concord manufactures key electronic components for the system, including circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs), positioning itself as a core domestic supplier in a specialised segment of railway electronics manufacturing.
Industry sources indicate that the DPWCS segment currently has three major players in India, making it a relatively concentrated but high-value market.
The deployment is expected to align with modern electric locomotive platforms, including 3-phase electric locomotives used for freight operations.
