Strong demand for Windows 11-ready devices and hardware refreshes drove global PC shipments up 9.4% in Q3 2025, with Asia/Pacific leading double-digit growth.

Global PC shipments grew 9.4% year-on-year (YoY) in the third quarter of 2025, reaching 75.8 million units, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
According to the report, the overall market remained strong, supported by Windows 11 adoption and the replacement of ageing devices. However, regional trends differ. North America continues to face challenges from US import tariffs and broader macroeconomic uncertainties.
Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice-president for IDC Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers, commented on the scenario, “While existing, the demand for newer PCs ready for Windows 11 is likely to push well into 2026.”
Meanwhile, the Asia/Pacific region, including Japan and China, saw double-digit growth. Japan’s hardware refreshes, driven by the end-of-support for Windows 10 and the GIGA education project, were key contributors.
Outside Japan, growth was slower due to economic and political factors and delayed Windows 11 adoption. However, some demand came from devices purchased during or before the COVID-19 pandemic, said Maciek Gornicki, senior research manager at IDC.
Among vendors, Lenovo led global traditional PC shipments with 19.4 million units in Q3 2025, up 17.3% from 16.5 million units a year earlier, holding a 25.5% market share. HP Inc shipped 15 million units, a 10.7% increase, representing 19.8% of the market.
In the third position, Dell Technologies shipped 10.1 million units, up 2.6%, holding 13.3% market share. Apple’s shipments rose 13.7% to 6.8 million units, capturing 9% share, while ASUS shipped 5.9 million units, up 11.4%, with 7.8% market share. Other vendors collectively shipped 18.6 million units, a 3% increase, accounting for 24.5% of the market.
The results indicate sustained growth in global PC demand, particularly in Asia, while supply-side and macroeconomic factors continue to shape regional performance. The transition to Windows 11 and ongoing device refresh cycles are expected to support the market into the following year.
