India’s EV Sales Hit New Record In October 2025

Riding a surge in electric two-wheeler and car demand, India’s EV sales soared to a record 234,019 units in October 2025, the year’s highest.

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market surged to a new high in October 2025, with total sales reaching 234,019 units, according to Vahan Dashboard data compiled by JMK Research. This represents a 28.7% increase month-on-month and a roughly 7.45% increase year-on-year, up from 181,760 units in September 2025 and 217,805 units in October 2025. This reportedly marks the highest monthly EV sales in the past year.

The high-speed electric two-wheeler (HS E2W) segment dominated the market, with 143,713 units sold, accounting for 61.41% of total registrations. Sales rose 38% month-on-month. The top three manufacturers: Bajaj, TVS, and Ather, captured nearly 62% of all E2W registrations, driven by robust demand for affordable, efficient commuter models and expanding charging infrastructure.

The electric three-wheeler (E3W) passenger category maintained strong momentum, with 61,064 units sold, reflecting a 16% increase month-on-month and a 4% rise year-on-year from October 2024. Together, the top eight players held about 49% of the market, benefiting from the rise in last-mile connectivity and shared mobility demand.

Sales of E3W cargo vehicles climbed to 9,538 units, marking a 13% month-on-month and 13.21% year-on-year growth. The segment continues to expand as logistics companies and small enterprises adopt electric cargo vehicles for cost efficiency and sustainability, with the top eight players holding 37% market share.

The E-car segment also performed exceptionally, with 17,785 units sold, up 18% month-on-month and 68% year-on-year. Tata Motors remained the dominant brand with roughly 40% market share, supported by strong sales of its Nexon EV and Tiago EV.

Conversely, E-bus sales declined to 291 units, a 16% fall month-on-month and a 30% drop year-on-year. PMI Electro led this segment with 37% market share, followed by Olectra at 36%.

An additional 0.7% of sales, or around 1628 units, came from other electric vehicle types.

Among the states, Uttar Pradesh remained at the top, recording 14.65% of the total EV sales in India across all segments. Maharashtra closely followed UP with 12.93%, and then Karnataka, which saw 9.26% of sales.
