NVIDIA And Intel Join Forces To Redefine AI And PC Computing

NVIDIA will invest $5 billion in Intel, while Intel crafts custom x86 CPUs and SoCs integrating NVIDIA RTX GPUs via NVLink.

NVIDIA And Intel Join Forces

In a move poised to reshape the semiconductor industry, NVIDIA and Intel have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop next-generation AI infrastructure and personal computing products. This collaboration marks a significant convergence of NVIDIA’s leadership in accelerated computing and AI with Intel’s expertise in CPU design, manufacturing, and the x86 ecosystem. Central to the alliance is the integration of NVIDIA NVLink, a high-bandwidth interconnect that will enable seamless communication between NVIDIA and Intel architectures.

By leveraging NVLink, the companies aim to reduce latency and increase data throughput, facilitating more efficient processing for AI workloads across hyperscale, enterprise, and consumer markets. The collaboration focuses on two primary product streams. For data centers, Intel will design and manufacture custom x86 CPUs tailored to NVIDIA’s specifications, which will then be integrated into NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure platforms, providing optimized performance for high-demand workloads. For personal computing devices, Intel will produce x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) that incorporate NVIDIA’s RTX GPU chiplets.

These integrated SoCs are designed to deliver high-performance computing, AI, and graphics capabilities in a single platform, offering PC makers a streamlined and powerful solution. Demonstrating its commitment, NVIDIA will invest $5 billion in Intel’s common stock at $23.28 per share, subject to regulatory approvals, signaling confidence in Intel’s role in advancing AI and computing technologies.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang described “the collaboration as transformative, stating that AI is reinventing every layer of the computing stack and that NVIDIA’s CUDA architecture, combined with Intel’s x86 ecosystem, creates a fusion of two world-class platforms”. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan emphasized that “Intel’s process technology, manufacturing, and advanced packaging capabilities will complement NVIDIA’s AI leadership, enabling breakthroughs across both enterprise and consumer markets”. Industry analysts note that the partnership could accelerate AI adoption, optimize CPU–GPU integration, and put competitive pressure on rivals such as AMD and ARM-based vendors, while also posing execution and regulatory challenges.

By aligning their technologies and leveraging NVLink connectivity, both the companies  aim to deliver solutions that accelerate applications and workloads across hyperscale, enterprise, and consumer sectors, marking a pivotal moment in the semiconductor industry.
