With AI tech features and its own new modem chip, Apple’s iPhone 16e, set to launch on Friday, will be assembled in India for local and export purposes.
Apple’s latest model, the iPhone 16e, is now being assembled in India, marking a significant step in the company’s local manufacturing efforts. The device will be available for sale in India, and it will also be exported to select international markets.
This new addition to the iPhone 16 series was officially launched on February 21, with pre-orders opening on February 21 and availability in stores starting from February 28.
According to the company, the iPhone 16e is positioned as a more affordable option compared to its higher-end counterparts in the iPhone 16 series. It is priced starting at ₹59,900.
Notable features of the iPhone 16e include the A18 chip, Apple’s proprietary AI technology, and a 48MP fusion camera that comes with an integrated 2x Telephoto lens.
Additionally, the iPhone 16e will also support satellite communication for features like emergency SOS, roadside assistance, and messages. This enables users to share their location through the ‘Find My’ app even when they are outside cellular coverage, enhancing its utility in remote areas.
Apple has confirmed that the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the 16e model, will be assembled in India for both local consumption and export.
The company also made headlines with a new custom-designed modem chip, breaking free from Qualcomm, that will be featured in the iPhone 16e.
The chip is part of Apple’s new C1 subsystem, which includes processors and memory. This modem, made with advanced 4nm and 7nm technology, was tested with 180 carriers worldwide. Apple plans to roll out the chip across its product range in the future.
