Looking to boost local electronics manufacturing, India greenlights a ₹4.17 billion project in UP, promising jobs, infrastructure, and industry-ready space for innovators.
The Indian government has approved a ₹4.17 billion Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) to be developed in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Recently reviewed by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State Jitin Prasada, the project will be carried out with support from the Uttar Pradesh government.
It aims to strengthen the country’s electronics manufacturing capabilities and encourage industrial investment, stated a government press release.
In terms of location, the cluster will be developed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and will cover 200 acres (almost 80.94 hectares). According to official estimates, it is projected to attract investments of around ₹2,500 crore and generate approximately 15,000 jobs.
Furthermore, the cluster will support a wide range of sectors, including consumer electronics, automotive and industrial electronics, computer hardware, medical devices, and communication equipment.
It aims to provide shared infrastructure to startups and small businesses, including plug-and-play factory spaces, utilities, and support facilities.
Infrastructure within the cluster will include standard manufacturing sheds, electricity and water connections, sewage systems, accommodation facilities, health centres, and skill development centres. These are intended to lower setup and operational costs for businesses.
Meanwhile, situated near the Yamuna Expressway and other major transportation routes, the site provides excellent connectivity by road, rail, and air. It is also in proximity to the upcoming Jewar International Airport and several industrial zones, including a medical device park and an apparel park.
The EMC 2.0 project is part of a broader national scheme under which around ₹300 billion has been invested to date. The initiative has so far attracted over 500 companies and led to the creation of more than 86,000 jobs across India.
“It is fully in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting manufacturing in India. It reflects the government’s sharp focus on job creation and building a Viksit Bharat,” commented Vaishnaw on the matter.
