China is expected to commence mass production of humanoid robots by 2025, with plans to integrate them as a key driver of economic growth by 2027.
China’s Agibot, a startup founded by a former Huawei employee, has entered the mass production phase for its humanoid robots. Despite being just two years old, the company aims to disrupt China’s competitive AI and robotics market by offering dynamic and innovative products. This move positions Agibot as a serious contender against other Chinese players in the rapidly advancing AI technology sector.
Founded in February 2023 by former Huawei recruit Peng Zhihui, it is making significant strides in the AI and robotics sector. The company has already launched multiple AI robot models for household chores and industrial applications. By December 15, 2024, the Agibot had successfully produced 962 commercial robots, showcasing its rapid growth and production capabilities.
China’s proactive measures, like the announcement by the Chongqing municipal corporation of $1.37 million in subsidies for robotics companies, exemplify the strategic push to foster innovation and incentivize growth within the sector. Another government authority’s introduction of a 5-year development scheme for the robotics industry underscores a long-term vision for industry-wide growth.
Moreover, a Chinese media report revealed that Huawei plans to expand into the robotics industry to enhance its AI capabilities. The company is investing approximately $413 million in Dongguan Jimu, a robotics manufacturer, and is expected to introduce an innovative robotic product to the market in the near future.
