At the 2nd India-Japan Forum in July 2023, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar highlighted the significant potential for collaboration between India and Japan in emerging and critical technologies, particularly semiconductors. He identified this sector as a forthcoming “fourth revolution,” emphasizing its capacity to transform manufacturing, urbanization, and logistics in India.
In the same month, India and Japan signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the semiconductor industry, aiming to establish resilient and reliable supply chains. This agreement is part of Japan’s broader commitment to invest approximately $35.9 billion in India by 2027. These initiatives underscore a shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties and advancing technological cooperation, with the semiconductor sector poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India-Japan relations.
