Rolling out iPhone 17 on a small scale, Foxconn’s new Bengaluru plant marks Apple’s deeper manufacturing shift to India.
Taiwanese electronics giant, Foxconn has started small-scale production of the upcoming iPhone 17 at its new manufacturing unit in Bengaluru. The plant, located in Devanahalli, is Foxconn’s second-largest facility globally outside China and represents an investment of about USD 2.8 billion.
The Bengaluru unit has begun rolling out iPhone 17 models on a limited scale, supplementing Foxconn’s existing production at its Chennai facility. Although Apple and Foxconn have not officially confirmed the development, industry sources said the move highlights Apple’s growing shift towards India as a key production hub. The transition comes amid Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China.
The new factory is still in its early stages of operation but is seen as a significant boost for India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Once fully scaled up, the Bengaluru plant is expected to generate thousands of jobs and strengthen India’s role in the global smartphone supply chain.
Earlier this year, operations at the unit faced a brief setback after a large number of Chinese engineers exited unexpectedly. Foxconn quickly resolved the issue by deploying technical experts from Taiwan and other regions, ensuring that production timelines remained largely unaffected.
The commencement of iPhone 17 assembly in Bengaluru marks a milestone in Apple’s India strategy, reinforcing the country’s growing importance in global electronics manufacturing and exports.
