The company has begun local assembly at its Greater Noida facility, extending Samsung’s local manufacturing strategy beyond smartphones, tablets and wearables.
Samsung has begun producing laptops at its Greater Noida plant, adding a new category to its India manufacturing portfolio. The move strengthens its local supply base at a time when the government is pushing multinational electronics makers to scale domestic production and exports.
The factory, operational since 1996, already produces smartphones, feature phones, tablets and wearables. By adding laptops, Samsung has widened its product line in India, though the company has not disclosed production volumes or specific models.
India hosts Samsung’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturing unit globally. The company is also the second-largest exporter of mobile phones from India after Apple. Diversification of production in India comes as global electronics manufacturers look to reduce dependence on China.
Market data indicates Samsung accounted for 17 percent of smartphone shipments in India in Q1 2025, placing it second behind Vivo, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple led in revenue share with 26 per cent, followed by Samsung.
In tablets, Samsung held 27 per cent market share in Q2 2025, second to Apple, and recorded 15 per cent year-on-year growth, according to CyberMedia Research. The Galaxy Tab A9 Plus 5G contributed most of its tablet shipments in that period.
In laptops, however, Samsung has limited presence in the Indian market. Local production signals a move to address this gap, though the company has not clarified whether devices made in Greater Noida will target domestic sales or exports.
