Bulk chip orders from Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance signal rising industry confidence in Huawei as China builds an independent AI computing stack.
Huawei Technologies’ upcoming AI chips are set to play a central role in powering China’s next major artificial intelligence launch, as DeepSeek prepares to roll out its new V4 model.
A report indicates that DeepSeek’s next-generation system will run on Huawei’s latest domestically designed processors, highlighting China’s accelerating shift toward locally developed semiconductor infrastructure amid ongoing technology restrictions.
In preparation for the launch, major Chinese technology firms — including Alibaba Group, ByteDance and Tencent Holdings have reportedly placed bulk orders for Huawei’s new AI chips. The purchases, estimated to involve hundreds of thousands of units, signal growing industry confidence in Huawei’s ability to provide large-scale AI computing alternatives to U.S. hardware.
The V4 model is expected to debut in the coming weeks, though neither Huawei nor DeepSeek has formally confirmed the timeline.
DeepSeek has spent recent months working closely with Huawei and domestic chip designer Cambricon Technologies to optimise the model for Chinese semiconductor architectures. Engineers reportedly rewrote parts of the system’s underlying code to ensure efficient performance on locally produced chips, marking a strategic departure from the global industry’s reliance on U.S.-based GPU ecosystems.
The company is also said to be developing two additional variants of V4, each tailored for specific capabilities while remaining fully compatible with Chinese processors.
Earlier reports suggested DeepSeek avoided sharing early versions of its flagship model with U.S. chipmakers for performance tuning a move that underscores Beijing’s broader ambition to build an independent AI technology stack.
Interest in V4 has grown significantly since DeepSeek’s earlier low-cost models, V3 and R1, unsettled global technology markets by challenging assumptions about the massive computing investments required for advanced AI systems.
With DeepSeek-V4 nearing release, Huawei’s chips are emerging as a key pillar in China’s evolving AI and semiconductor strategy.
