Cutting-edge sensing tech meets Indian UAV innovation as IG Drones partners with Belgium’s VoxelSensors to build smarter, safer drones for complex, GPS-limited environments worldwide.
India’s IG Drones has announced a collaboration with Belgian company VoxelSensors to integrate advanced 3D perception systems into its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The partnership aims to improve drone navigation and performance in environments where GPS signals are limited or visual conditions are complex.
At the centre of the alliance is the integration of VoxelSensors’ SPAES (Streaming Perception for AI Enhanced Systems) technology. Known for its high-speed, low-latency spatial sensing, the system will be embedded in IG Drones’ UAVs to enhance real-time decision-making, obstacle detection, and mapping accuracy.
The drones are expected to be deployed in a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure inspection, disaster response, environmental monitoring, and smart city development.
The new capabilities will address challenges in areas such as tunnels, industrial interiors, dense forests, and urban zones where conventional GPS-based systems struggle.
“This collaboration reflects a mutual interest in pushing the boundaries of autonomous aerial technology,” said Sambit Parida, Chief Technology Officer at IG Drones. “The ability to process spatial data with greater speed and precision will support safer and more reliable drone operations, particularly in mission-critical environments,” he said.
“By combining our real-time 3D sensing with IG Drones’ UAV expertise, we are contributing to a new standard in aerial intelligence,” said Andre Miodezky, President of VoxelSensors. “The potential use cases are broad, and the need for accurate perception in dynamic conditions is growing.”
The announcement comes as IG Drones continues to expand its operations. The company reports deploying over 200 drones in FY25 and has established 50 Drone Centres of Excellence in partnership with AICTE across India.
Officials from India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) have noted the collaboration as a positive example of international cooperation in the drone sector, aligning with national goals for digital innovation and industrial advancement.
“MeitY supports such collaborations that not only strengthen India’s digital and industrial capabilities but also foster meaningful international partnerships aligned with sustainable and high-impact technological progress,” noted Paneerselvam Madanagopal, CEO, MeitY.
