Strengthening India’s chip ambitions, Indium Corporation joins IDSPS programme, supporting semiconductor R&D, workforce development and supply-chain growth through academia-industry collaboration.
Indium Corporation has joined India’s Indian Design, Semiconductor, Packaging and Systems (IDSPS) programme, aligning with a national effort to strengthen semiconductor research, workforce development and supply chain capabilities.
The IDSPS initiative brings together the Government of India, state authorities, academic institutions and industry participants to support long-term growth in semiconductor manufacturing and design, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence (AI)-led demand.
The programme is focused on building a sustainable ecosystem through collaborative research, talent development and infrastructure expansion.
Indium Corporation said its participation would centre on supporting the development of industry-ready engineers by providing exposure to advanced materials and semiconductor assembly processes.
The programme currently involves around 50 academic faculty members from institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and BITS Pilani, alongside approximately 50 global companies. Together, they are working to establish 12 technology hubs across India.
According to Andy Mackie, Principal Engineer for Advanced Materials at Indium Corporation, the collaboration is intended to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial application, particularly in areas such as materials performance, manufacturing challenges and reliability standards.
The initiative has also received support from Rao Tummala, founding director of IDSPS and adviser to the India Semiconductor Mission, who noted the importance of industry participation in scaling India’s semiconductor ambitions.
Indium Corporation stated that the partnership builds on its existing engagement with academic institutions and industry bodies in India, including its association with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
The company said it is expanding its manufacturing presence in the country while investing in product and process development.
