Could solar-powered irrigation accelerate clean farming adoption? Jupiter International has secured a ₹1.08 billion order to supply 5000 solar agricultural pumps across Maharashtra.
Kolkata-based Jupiter International Limited has received a Letter of Empanelment (LoE) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to supply 5000 solar-powered agricultural pumps under the state’s solar irrigation programme. The contract is valued at ₹1.08 billion.
The latest award marks another order from MSEDCL for the company and expands its presence in Maharashtra’s solar irrigation market. The project forms part of the state’s efforts to promote solar-powered irrigation systems and increase the use of clean energy in the agricultural sector.
Jupiter International, which manufactures photovoltaic (PV) solar cells and provides solar power solutions, has been increasing its activities in the solar pump segment alongside its core solar cell manufacturing business.
The company said the order aligns with its strategy of expanding its renewable energy portfolio while supporting decentralised clean energy deployment.
Commenting on the development, Akash Garodia, executive director of Jupiter International Limited, said the repeat order reflected customer confidence in the company’s execution capabilities and delivery standards.
He added that the company would continue supporting agricultural solarisation by supplying solar pumping systems while strengthening its position in the segment.
Solar-powered agricultural pumps are increasingly being adopted as an alternative to conventional diesel- and grid-powered irrigation systems, helping farmers reduce operating costs while improving access to reliable energy for irrigation.
State-supported solar irrigation programmes have been introduced across several regions to encourage wider adoption of renewable energy in agriculture.
The MSEDCL order further strengthens Jupiter’s footprint in Maharashtra, one of India’s key markets for solar irrigation projects, said Jupiter.
It expects the project to contribute to ongoing efforts to expand clean energy access for farmers and support the broader transition towards renewable energy-based agricultural infrastructure.
