Mizoram government is all set to build four solar plants and a solar park in different parts of the state. The aim of the project is to generate 80MW of solar power by 2021. This project comes under the Solar Power Policy which was adopted in 2017 to develop, promote and encourage solar power generation in the state.
According to the officials of power and electricity department, the whole project will consist of five solar plants in the districts of Aizawl, Mamit and Champai. The solar park will be constructed near Vankal village in south Mizoram’s Champai district, which will generate 20MW solar power.
A Mumbai-based company will outsource the proposed plant and it will construct the plant at its own expense. The state government will then purchase the solar power from it.
Under the initiative of the state’s Zoram Energy Development Agency, a 2MW solar plant will be constructed at Tlungel village in Aizawi district. To construct this plant, funds have been raised under the New Economic development Policy.
R.Lalzirliana, Home minister has said in May that the state government was trying to become self-sufficient in power generation.
