Targeting a major growth in India by 2030, Musashi Auto Parts India enters the EV market with e-axles, for electric two-wheelers, with a joint venture with Delta and Toyota.
Musashi Auto Parts India (MAP-ID), a supplier of transmission gears, shafts, and differential assemblies for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in India, is diversifying into the electric vehicle (EV) component market with e-axles.
According to an exclusive report by Autocar Professional, recognising the rapid growth of electric two- and three-wheelers in the country, MAP-ID has recently begun mass production of e-axles for electric two-wheelers at its Bengaluru facility. It has an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, with plans to double this by 2026 and reach one million units per year by 2030.
Furthermore, MAP-ID has also formed a joint venture with Delta Electronics and Toyota Tsusho, called Musashi Delta e-Axle India, which manufactures components for electric two-wheelers.
The company has secured anchor customers, such as Coimbatore-based BNC Motors and Bengaluru’s Emobi, who are using MAP-ID’s e-axles in their electric scooters.
The company’s CEO, Naoya Nishimura, highlighted MAP-ID’s expansion strategy of for both electric and ICE vehicles in India, particularly in the sub-100cc two-wheeler segment, which is expected to transition to EVs faster than higher-capacity motorcycles.
The company is also aiming to become an end-to-end EV systems supplier, developing an integrated e-axle system that includes a gearbox, e-motor, and electric drive unit. In partnership with Log9 Materials, MAP-ID has integrated its e-axle with locally produced lithium-ion batteries to create a complete powertrain solution.
Looking ahead, MAP-ID plans significant growth, forecasting a nearly 20% increase in revenue over the next five years. By 2030, the company aims to expand its production to 8 million units annually, with investments of ₹6.66 billion to ₹7.5 billion to enhance its capacity and R&D efforts in India.
