Ending his seven‑year tenure during a turbulent phase for the smartphone brand, Robin Liu exits OnePlus India as the company grapples with falling shipments and strategic shifts.
OnePlus India has announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Robin Liu, amid sustained declines in smartphone shipments. The departure was confirmed on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, with the firm stating that operations will continue under its local strategy to ensure business continuity.
Liu joined OnePlus in 2018 and held several leadership positions before becoming CEO of the India unit in 2024. During his tenure, he oversaw the launch of flagship devices such as the OnePlus 15, while also expanding into categories including smart TVs and audio products.
His leadership coincided with OnePlus’s efforts to broaden its reach beyond the premium smartphone segment, particularly through the Nord series, which targeted the mid-premium market.
The Chinese company initially gained traction in India with devices such as the OnePlus 3, establishing a strong position in the high-end market.
Expansion through the Nord series into the mid-premium category, however, coincided with intensifying competition from rivals including vivo, OPPO and Motorola. Analysts suggest this move diluted OnePlus’s premium positioning, contributing to sustained double-digit declines in shipments.
Meanwhile, industry data highlights the scale of the challenge. CyberMedia Research reported a 32 per cent fall in OnePlus shipments in 2025, while IDC estimated a year-on-year decline of 38.8 per cent.
Analysts attribute the downturn to wider market pressures, including a global shortage of memory chips, which has constrained smartphone production across the sector.
Liu’s exit coincides with restructuring within OPPO Group, which oversees OnePlus. Reports indicate that OnePlus now reports to Realme’s leadership, fuelling speculation about the brand’s long-term strategy in India.
