By supplying advanced semiconductors for cloud and AI infrastructure, enabling faster, scalable compute power with improved performance, STMicroelectronics deepens its ties with Amazon Web Services.
STMicroelectronics has deepened its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) through a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar commercial agreement to supply advanced chips for cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Under the expanded engagement, ST will become a key supplier of semiconductor technologies embedded within AWS’s compute platforms. It will help AWS roll out more powerful compute instances, lower operating costs and scale demanding AI and cloud workloads more efficiently for enterprise and developer customers.
The agreement spans multiple product categories from ST’s proprietary portfolio. These include high-bandwidth connectivity components, mixed-signal technologies for high-speed data handling, microcontrollers to manage intelligent infrastructure, and analogue and power devices to improve energy efficiency across hyperscale data centres.
Together, these technologies are expected to support higher performance while reducing the total cost of ownership for cloud operators and users.
Beyond hardware supply, the two companies will also collaborate on optimising electronic design automation workloads in the cloud. By using AWS’s scalable compute resources, ST aims to accelerate silicon design processes, parallelise complex workloads and shorten development cycles, enabling faster time-to-market for new semiconductor products.
As part of the commercial framework, ST has issued warrants to AWS, allowing the cloud provider to acquire up to 24.8 million ordinary shares in the chipmaker over a seven-year period.
The vesting of these warrants is largely linked to AWS’s purchases of ST products and services over the term of the agreement, aligning long-term commercial incentives between the two partners.
“This collaboration positions us ideally for further scale-up across multiple market segments, from data centre infrastructure to AI connectivity, positioning ST at the centre of the AI revolution,” said Jean-Marc Chery, ST President and CEO, STMicroelectronics.
He further noted, “Our advanced semiconductor solutions will directly power AWS’s next-generation infrastructure, enabling their customers to push the boundaries of AI, high-performance computing, and digital connectivity.”
