Fuelled by skilled engineers and streamlined facilitation, Tamil Nadu advances semiconductor fabs while preparing a global-ready talent pool, says minister.
Tamil Nadu is reportedly set to establish a semiconductor fabrication unit while simultaneously positioning itself as a global talent hub for chip manufacturing. According to a report by CNBC-TV18, State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa confirmed that the government continues to pursue fab projects alongside building a highly skilled engineering workforce.
He emphasised that while fabs do not generate mass employment, they create specialised, high-value jobs critical to India’s technological and national security goals. He added that fabs are needed in both north and south, noting that southern proposals have often been diverted to other states.
Rajaa maintained that Tamil Nadu would persist in making its case for semiconductor investments.
To support semiconductor ambitions, the state is focusing on education and advanced skill development, he said. A new School of Excellence is being set up to train engineers for chip manufacturing and design roles. Tamil Nadu produces around 150,000 engineers every year, many of whom are being trained in new technologies as well as foreign languages such as German and Japanese to prepare for global assignments.
Besides, under the Naan Mudhalvan initiative, led by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation is helping align technical education with semiconductor industry needs.
Rajaa credited Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for driving an efficient, coordinated approach to industrial facilitation. Highlighting their single window system, he explained that top state officials collectively review and clear investment proposals to fast-track execution.
