Boosting automotive expertise, TN government partners with Nissan to train 100 engineers, strengthening the state’s EV and mobility sector.
TN government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nissan to train 100 engineers in a training facility in Chennai during a summit organised by the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in collaboration with Guidance Tamil nadu.
TRB Rajaa, Industries Minister said that the facility will train the engineers in spoken Japanese language, so that they can receive employment at Nissan’s centres in japan.
He added, “Our intention is not to sign MOUs for the sake of it or for highlighting the investment numbers. Our focus is on conversion and providing employment opportunities to the youth of Tamil Nadu.”
Rajaa emphasized the need to establish a working group comprising both EFTA stakeholders and SICCI members to coordinate negotiations on a fixed timeline. SICCI has already taken steps to foster collaboration by setting up an EFTA Desk, aimed at strengthening engagement between Indian businesses and EFTA nations.
The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. Notable participants included Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, and Benedikt Höskuldsson, Ambassador of Iceland to India.
Speaking at the event, Maya Tissafi highlighted EFTA countries’ commitment to investing $100 billion in India over the next 15 years, potentially generating 1 million jobs.
Echoing this optimism, Benedikt Höskuldsson noted that the TEPA agreement would enhance trade between India and Iceland in premium seafood, technology, and geothermal energy, reinforcing bilateral economic ties.
