For chip training, hundreds of Tata Electronics staff head to Taiwan, as India gears up for its ambitious semiconductor leap with the fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
Tata Electronics is reportedly sending hundreds of employees to Taiwan for training as part of its efforts to establish a semiconductor fabrication and assembly facility in India.
The company, part of the Tata Group, is working with its technology partner, Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), to prepare staff for its upcoming fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
According to a report by The Economic Times, around 200 employees have been sent in phases to PSMC’s facilities for specialised, hands-on training.
Due to capacity constraints at PSMC, the training is being conducted in structured batches. These sessions are designed to equip workers with the technical skills required to run the fabrication and OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) operations.
The Dholera plant, backed by a ₹910 billion investment, is expected to create more than 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs. Tata Electronics has begun hiring in groups of 75. Each batch is trained in specific areas such as equipment handling, yield and process engineering, and quality assurance.
The report mentioned that the quality engineering team is usually smaller, as it needs fewer personnel.
To support the new facility, Tata Electronics is also actively recruiting seasoned talent from global semiconductor firms like Intel and GlobalFoundries. At the same time, it is building a future-ready workforce by sending recent graduates and early-career professionals to Taiwan.
