Set to generate massive employment, Tata Projects revealed that Micron’s ATMP facility in Sanand will be completed by December 2025. After the handover, Micron will decide its commencement.
On Tuesday, Tata Projects announced that the construction of Micron Technology’s semiconductor assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
In a report by the Economic Times, Amit Agrawal, Project Director at Tata Projects, 60 per cent of the work on India’s “first” semiconductor ATMP plant has already been finished by a workforce of 3500, and the remaining construction will be completed by December 2025.
The facility, located in the Sanand industrial area and spanning nearly 50 acres, began construction in July 2024. Tata Projects is overseeing the development of this facility for Micron.
Agrawal explained that an ATMP facility is key to semiconductor production, handling testing, packaging, and marking processes. He added that this is expected to be one of the largest backend semiconductor fabrication units globally.
Furthermore, after completion, Tata Projects set to hand over the facility to Micron once civil, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works, as well as other engineering tasks, are finalised according to Micron’s specifications. Micron will make the final decision on when to start operations.
In June 2023, the Gujarat government signed an agreement with Micron to establish the $2.75 billion semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand. The project is expected to create approximately 5000 direct jobs and an additional 15,000 indirect jobs once operational.
