Exploring 5G, 6G, IoT, and India-specific solutions for digital transformation, the Telecommunication Engineering Centre and the IIIT Naya Raipur team up to shape next-generation telecom innovation.
The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Naya Raipur. The agreement aims to promote research, innovation, and standardisation in next-generation telecommunications technologies.
The Ministry of Communications said the partnership will bring together TEC’s experience in telecom standards and IIIT Naya Raipur’s research capabilities, aiming to support India’s efforts in telecom development.
Key focus areas include Open RAN and network disaggregation, cognitive radio and spectrum sharing, and frameworks for 5G, 6G, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The collaboration will also contribute to ITU-T Study Groups and TEC’s national working groups, ensuring India’s voice in international standardisation efforts.
Besides, a primary goal of the partnership is the development of India-specific test frameworks and interoperable solutions that address the country’s diverse connectivity needs. Joint research testbeds and real-world experiments are expected to accelerate innovation in emerging telecom technologies, while also promoting affordable and vendor-neutral solutions to boost digital inclusion.
Officials noted that the collaboration aligns with India’s vision of self-reliance, supporting indigenous research, design, and development. By creating domestic standards and test frameworks, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported technology for critical telecom infrastructure.
