Marking a milestone in the global EV ecosystem, BYD’s 13-millionth new energy vehicle rolls out in Shenzhen, China.
Chinese Automaker BYD recently marked a production milestone with the roll-off of its 13-millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) at its Xiaomo Production Base, located in the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone. The model marking the occasion was the YANGWANG U7, part of BYD’s premium electric vehicle (EV) lineup.

This development follows steady growth in BYD’s NEV sales throughout the first half of the year. Between January and June 2025, the company posted domestic sales of over 2.113 million units, representing a 31.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Internationally, BYD reported selling 472,000 units, up a whopping 128.5% year-over-year.
According to industry data, BYD currently leads global NEV sales volumes. The auto giant attributes this position to continued demand in both domestic and overseas markets, as well as expanded production capacity and product range.
The YANGWANG U7, showcased during the ceremony, represents BYD’s efforts to enter the high-end electric vehicle segment. The YANGWANG brand, launched to compete with premium global automakers, has been positioned as a platform for advanced design and performance features.
Mewanwhile, the production of 13 million NEVs is considered a significant benchmark in the automotive sector, as manufacturers globally work to scale EV production in response to stricter emissions regulations and shifting consumer preferences.
However, broader industry challenges remain, including battery supply chain sustainability, cost pressures, and the development of supporting infrastructure.
BYD has not released projections for the remainder of 2025, but stated it will continue to focus on expanding international markets and developing its NEV offerings.
