From India’s first OSAT facility in Assam to global automotive platforms, Qualcomm and Tata Electronics unite to make advanced vehicle modules locally, reshaping supply chains.
Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics have confirmed a new collaboration under which Tata will manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules in India. Production will take place at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
The site, India’s first indigenous OSAT facility, is being developed with a US$3 billion investment and will focus on technologies including Wire Bond, Flip Chip, and Integrated Systems Packaging.
Qualcomm Automotive Modules integrate Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips (SoC) with key system components into a single, production-ready unit. These modules will simplify system design, accelerate development, and support the industry’s transition to software-defined vehicles.
The partnership is expected to serve both Indian and global automakers, enabling local production of advanced automotive technologies for digital cockpits, infotainment, connectivity, and intelligent vehicle systems.
According to Tata, this agreement places them within Qualcomm’s global network of module manufacturing partners, supporting rising demand for modular automotive platforms worldwide. The initiative also aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ programme and is intended to strengthen supply chain resilience and geographic diversification.
“As the industry accelerates its shift toward integrated, module-based architectures, expanding manufacturing capacity in key regions becomes essential,” said Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM, Automotive, Industrial and Embedded IoT, and Robotics at Qualcomm, commenting on the partnership.
Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President, Qualcomm India, added that the modules are central to Qualcomm’s vision for the future of vehicle electronics.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, stated further, “This collaboration supports Tata Electronics’ objective to become a global hub for high-technology manufacturing.”
